First Street Road Call for Entries:
we need a VERY BIG mural, to cover a 4,000 sf building

Construction pics of our cottage from last year, with the building to be painted in the background. Let's get something going instead of the yellow stucco (no offense to stucco lovers)
May 2012:
We have now inhabited our little building for nearly a year, and are about to open our second Street Road exhibition. Looking ahead, we are turning our sights on some other parts of our triangular property that need a little TLC. Up on the hill there, behind our cottage, is a commercial building that serves as a doctor's office upstairs, storage downstairs. The structure is very much in need of some new paint. This is where you come in.
Street Road is soliciting entries for a mural design that will cover all sides of this two story building. That's a 4000 square foot space, so we need BIG ideas. We are inspired by the profusion of mural art that Philly sports and that continues to gain recognition.
All submitted entries will be posted here online, and will also be exhibited in a show at Street Road in 2013.
The ARA Real Estate employees and other site tenants will all have say in which mural is chosen for permanent installation. We will also take your votes online.
GUIDELINES There are only a few loose guidelines for entries, viz:
1) Timing: we will paint the mural next spring (2013). We will exhibit all entries in a show that coincides with the mural being put up. Deadline for entries: January 15, 2013.
2) Look and feel: below are photos of some existing murals from around the world that we like. We will continue to add to this collection. Designs don't have to have anything whatsoever to do with these. We just like them. In general we want the design to 'tie the room together' so to speak, as The Big Lebowski would say. To that end, we suggest tonalities pick up on the blue and brown of our little cottage and the greens of the surrounding countryside.
3) Cashos - Street Road is a non-profit organization, and we strive to support artists in a non-traditional way, so we do not take a commission on work in our shows, beyond covering shipping and installation costs. That said, to cover the work for handling and judging entries for this project, there is a $10 entry fee + return postage fee (if you want your work returned). Cash, check or money order accepted. We'll also have a PayPal link here soon.
(The painting of the winning entry will be covered by us as part of regular building maintenance.)
4) Format for entries: whatever you think best conveys your idea for the mural. Come visit us to see the building in person. Call us if you're unsure what to send. Call us just because.
5) A little basic background on the building -- the lower level was once a mushroom house, the top half was added later (1990s maybe?), and we think that our friendly groundhogs still live in a lower-lower level of their very own creation.
