Street Road's Winter Library is the quietly stormy complement to our now ongoing Summer Library project: a hibernal celebration of growth and gathering during periods of dormancy.
Holding space for the warm seasons to come, when Summer Library will continue, and when a new series of librarians will interpret and activate our collection, the Winter Library simmers quietly on the shelf and is open to the public as an extension of our main Little Free Library, with all books free to take as usual. Two related participatory projects run throughout the Winter and into Spring, both of which are led by the ethos of the wider Summer/Winter Library endeavor. Visit, or contact us by email to take part virtually. 1. Chain of Title
Visitors are asked to riff off of the title of the last book added to the shelf by selecting a related book from our ever-shifting pile of titles and adding it to the chain. You can do so in person, or, browse our online catalogue and email us your selection - if we are able to locate the book (not always a certainty) we will add it to the sequence. The chain of titles will be updated here periodically:
2. The Book of Ashes
Remnants from The Anti-Anthropocene Bonfire Bookburning, which took place as part of Summer Library 2021, have been renewed and incorporated into sheets of paper, to be used as a new canvas for meditations on libraries and books and archives. An open invitation was sent out and participants have realized new works using one of these pages. Visit The Book of Ashes page here for further details and join us May 21 to view submissions to date. |
